Denis Potvin, the colour commentator for Ottawa Senators broadcasts on Rogers Sportsnet, joined the network’s family in the fall of 2010.

The cornerstone of the New York Islanders’ four Stanley Cup championship teams in the early ’80s, Potvin retired in 1988 as the National Hockey League’s leader in goals and points by a defencman. After a stellar career on and off the ice, Potvin was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame and Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame in 1991.

Potvin got his start in sports broadcasting in 1989 with SportsChannel New York covering NHL games. Then in 1993, Potvin joined the Sunshine Network (later Fox Sports) as the colour commentator for Florida Panthers broadcasts during their expansion season.

Potvin spent 16 years in the Sunshine State with Fox Sports working on Panthers games before joining the Rogers Sportsnet team in the fall of 2010. He is also a contributor to NHL Home Ice on XM Satellite Radio.

Potvin and his wife, Valerie, are the proud parents of their three grown children, Madeleine, Annabelle and Christian.
